Looks like the news is now reporting that it is officially being called a recovery operation. Truly unfortunate. She will be greatly missed.

I flew right over Red going out of SeaTac yesterday and was thinking about what to ski next in the Commonwealth. Totally different mindset now. Thoughts and prayers from the other side of the country.

Reports are she was killed in an avalanche. Backpack glove and other things found in avalanche debris.

Just back from the pass. The heli arrived at daybreak, but clouds had begun to touch down on Snoqualmie and Kendall, with counterpropagating winds near the ridges. Organized SAR and dogs in the parking lot/heading into Commonwealth, just as they had been in several teams overnight. Precip was just barely starting, but visibility remained good below the clouds.

Remarkably good things happen all the time in the mountains.

She was such a good hugger! I am sending her one right now. I loved how she kept her stuffed kitty with her on climbing trips. She was such an inspiration to other women climbers. She will be remembered fondly and missed beyond words.

Fairly sure I never met her, but I always heard she was a hardcore skier and a good person.

Oddly enough: on Jan. 26, we'd exchanged emails talking about maybe going skiing the next day, Thursday. As it happened, I was suggesting Red Mtn, and she was wanting to go ski at Paradise. In the end, we didn't ski, due to unrelated logistical reasons, but made plans to maybe go some other time.

She texted me Sunday morning about joining up in the Baker Backcountry. I had to stay close to the ski area so I could give my daughter and her friend a ride home at 2. I skied out the arm and dropped in to Lake Ann and enjoyed watching her party climb to the top of Mt. Ann Butte. Thinking that it would be so good to ski with her this month on a trip we had planned to Rogers Pass. You never know.....

This past Sunday I bumped into her in the upper Baker lot. She was showing some friends around Mt Ann. I remember split skiing (skins on of course) down the drainage and watching her schralp the left over boot top pow with her friends. It was a glorious day to be out.

I remember telling her at the parking lot that you are the only person I know that wears her pussy (cat) on the outside. Throughout the years she has grown fond of my humor. Comments of the such would always bring out that vibrant smile...

I only skied with her once, but I was really amazed and her strength, endurance and skills.

Even more admirable was that she was really concerned about keeping her hands warm, not for her own sake, but because she was a healthcare provider and needed them to be in good shape to do her job well. So caring and thoughtful, I really looked up to her.
