Skiing in the Enchantments Core? was created by MattT
I'm lucky enough to get to tag along on a core permit for the first weekend in August. Group is doing a traditional 2+ night backpacking enjoyment of it, Asgard to snow lake direction.
How crazy/a PITA would it be to try and bring skis? Worth it in August? I can be a glutton for punishment, especially for unique skiing experiences (plus it would tick off August!). But I've never been and this may be just asking for trouble? Any beta greatly appreciated!

The upper basin is one of my "go-to" Sept/Oct spots. It may be crazy, but to me it's worth it.
On the other hand, carrying skis down the snow lakes trail would be brutal. Every time I do this, I come back out Colchuck way.
Let me know the day you will be skiing and I'll try to come up and make a couple runs with you!

It's been quite a few years since I've been up there, but I recall a snowfield on the north side of the ridge connecting Annapurna and Dragontail closely northeast of Dragontail extending down to the plateau not too far southeast of Aasgard Pass. My impression was that it was large enough to be semi-permanent and would provide more than a few turns. This was during larch season, so late September, early October.

Call the ranger station in Leavenworth and ask them about snow coverage. I think there are rangers that hike the loop several times/week. YMMV ICBW - S2F
Oops - I just read "first weekend in August" so what did you find?

Yes, I would say skiing the Enchantments in summer is Core.
