December 11, 2019 Northstar

Why Northstar today? Today Squaw opened the KT22 lift for the first time this season, and Alpine Meadows opened the Sherwood express lift for the first time this season. We have skied there many years for the opening day. It is fun and crazy for a run or 2. The great skiers and boarders were there, so we decided to go elsewhere.

Northstar was very quiet with perfect groomers and packed powder. The front side was opened. Lookout Mountain and The Backside are closed and need more snow.

We rode the Big Spring express gondola, the Arrow express lift, the Comstock express lift, and the Vista express lift which was the jewel. The Northstar terrain parks have wonderful trails. Highland gondola was running, BUT you had to PAY to park in that area. They now have large free parking areas with buses that run every 5-10 minutes. The bus arrives at the Village and you can load your stuff onto a gray cart and walk to the nearby Big Spring gondola. You can ski down to the gondola at the end of the day.

Today was cloudy with slight fog at The Summit. No crowds, packed powder, and fast turns for the 72 and 75 year old "kids". 😉

We are now heading home for some PNW snow.😉

Nice report on Northstar. Take your time coming home. It's not going to happen overnight. I'm heading to Whistler Friday and hoping that within a week an Alpine lift opens...
