The drive from Bishop to Mammoth is only 40 miles but it was a sad drive. The eastern Sierra has a very light snow cover. I’ll post an update later. The forecast was for late morning sunshine and temperatures in the 40’s. It’s springtime at Mammoth. We showed our Whistler Edge card and received a 50% discount on our ski ticket ($39). The snow report indicated 20 plus chairs and the gondola operating and 86 trails groomed. We skied the groomers until the snow softened and then skied off piste in spring conditions. At 2 pm we headed to town to browse in Mammoth Mountaineering, a backcountry skier’s toy store similar to Marmot in Bellevue. Then drove a few miles to Tub Hot Spring and soaked as we watched the sunset over the Sierra as alpenglow illuminated the peaks. We parked the van nearby and cooked dinner. We had 3 TV channels to choose from plus excellent Verizon cell coverage and wireless internet via our Air Card in the laptop and T-Mobile. Life is good.

The photo is the view from our campsite at Tub Hot Spring.
