I started fairly early, which proved to work to my disadvantage, but eased my paranoia about possible wet slides - the recent dump and warm temps... turned out to be a cruel joke - snow was icy till I got to I. rock.
I ascended the Old Chute, then skied down from the summit ridge to the Yokum shoulder. My intention was to drop into the Sandy Glacier Headwall. After downclimbing, poking around differant entrance aspects, I decided I did not like the icy conditions, along with a section of downclimbing an ice bulge. Beautiful looking line, just not in.
The wind was picking up to regular gusts of ~40mph.... I dropped into the Leutholds, which held a grippy - edgy textured frozen corn crust. The surface conditions became steadily icier as I descended, to a bulletproof ice crust above and in the hourglass. My edges were not holding the 45-50dg ice, so I sidestepped down with ice axe. Below the crux was a mixture of avi debris (looks like cycle went saturdayish - but i noticed only maybe one D2) and crusts, and frozen corn. Up to I. rock then down the boring leg burner mank to the camper.
