KingWilliam and I headed off to try a new (to us) route near Darrington. A later than late start coupled with low rain-spitting/vision-obscuring clouds (who ordered that?) kept us from reaching our goal. Fun day anyway. We watched steep E-facing slopes drop small-to-medium sized wet looking slides from 11:30am-1ish pm. Clouds broke as we headed home, allowing us to resolve our routefinding dilemma. Great views for the trip home.

There's snow as low as 600-700' near Darrington on sheltered slopes. Consistent skinning began at or below 1100', but the change due to melting was obvious between our ascent and descent.

Non-standard routes are really fun.

Where did you go? (or attempt to go?) The darrington area is one of the most impressive areas to explore, but it tends to suffer from the ravages of nature and more difficult access than other areas. As such, any more detailed information we can get out there would be appreciated!

We were also in the same area trying a 'non-standard' route!

Snow conditions on the mountain loop:

Someone living up near the old Bedal homestead/townsite had plowed the mountain loop road up to that point (past pugh road turnoff), but a few spots caused problems for our low-clearance car (a subaru would probably be fine).

Pugh road not gated, but lots of fallen woody debris everywhere. Patchy snow on the road. Trail itself had so much blowdown that we didnt make it that far...
