Was able to skin from the parking lot to Anvil Rock, where I quit as the lenticular/cloud cap seemed to be sinking, making the light very flat. Really nice skiing on 2-4 inches of dense new snow with just a few icy or wind-affected spots on the snowfield. If you turned too hard you hit the crust, but that was largely avoidable given the low angle.
Went into the basin east of Pan Point rather than bouncing my way through snowshoe tracks all the way back to the lot. This turned out to be a very good move. Great snow that felt like something between powder and corn. No crust to speak of.
While traversing out on Mazama Ridge, I wrapped around the N aspect of a prominent roller and found a little powder. Hmm. My eye went right to the N-facing aspect of a bowl a little further up that I assume to be one of the "Mazama Back Bowls." Did a shaded, powdery lap there before heading down to the road and back to the car. Great day.
