Since conditions were a little uncertain, we headed up to Yodelin, figuring that if the cold and wind had created an unskiable crust, at least we wouldn't have wasted too much energy. We had a dream day, a blue bird day, the Lord of powder blessed us and a few others.
It was cold enough to freeze fingers all day, but not too windy. There were about 4-6 inches of light powder on top of a firm layer that made skiing like gliding on a cloud. Too poetic? OK, it was just sick. We could do no wrong. Met City Hick and friend, also Blue Bagger and Berry - Nice to meet yah!
Does this sound like a travel brochure?
- no lift lines
- 2500 vertical feet per day of delicious powder
- One trip over the south side at no added charge
- A Trip Through Big Tree Territory,
- lunch on the ridge with not a cloud in the sky
- Extreme cardio workouts sprinkled throughout the day
- a rosy sunset on the way out, a full moon rising
- All for $20 worth of gas.
A note on parking - We had no trouble parking in the overflow lot. Maybe MLK day wasn't a busy ski day, maybe we got there early (9 ish), maybe the goon squad had the day off. I'd bet getting there early will avoid any problems.
