June 28, 2003, Lassen Peak

On the morning of Saturday, June 28th, I hiked up to the summit ridge with Jon Kazmierski. We started around 9 AM and it was already hot as it was a clear day. Could have hiked in shorts. The crux of the hike and ski was using the park service's septic vault. With 3 feet of snow on the roof, the methane gases cannot escape, thus odors remain trapped inside for all those willing to suffer.

We had only a few hours as we had an ultimate frisbee game and wedding to catch nearby. Consequently, we skiied the snow field hiker's right of the trail and traversed back to the parking lot. The quality of corn was excellent, but the south facing slope was runneled. However, I found some smooth lines. In all, I think that shot is about 1400 feet.

Jon skiied the north side the next morning and I headed to Mt. Adams and South Sister.
