01-10-08, Stevens Pass

Left Ballard at 6:00, picked up buddy in Fremont at 6:10, after coffee stop in Monroe proceeded up a well plowed road for an 8:00 arrival in an almost empty parking lot.  Skied the 6-8 inches light density fun on a soft base (almost enough not to hit bottom under Souther Cross for 3-4 laps, then proceeded to enjoy the almost bottomless (though slightly heavier) trees far skiers left for another two hours.  Temps warmed dramatically during the morning, to the point that the snow in lower Mill Valley had become awfully heavy (still great up high).  Left at noon completely soaked (dumping all day, though enough vis to see) and smiling.  Saw a small slide come down behind us across one of the Eastbound lanes of the highway about 2 miles or so West of the pass on the drive back to Seattle, scary stuff.  Sorry no pics, skiing too much fun to waste time with the camera.  Almost no one on the Mtn today, ski on lifts and empty runs, gotta love weekdays!
