Skiing the Cascade Crest - Presentations was created by Lowell_Skoog
Several groups have asked me to present my program about skiing the Cascade Crest this winter.  The dates are settled and the host groups may post their own announcements eventually.  Most of these events are free, but at least one will be a benefit for the Northwest Avalanche Center and will have a modest admission charge.  See the link below for details and a promotional blurb:

www.alpenglow.org/ski-history/project/presentations.html

Fri, Jan 4 - Methow Valley Elementary School, Winthrop, WA
Wed, Jan 30 - Central Washington University, Ellensburg, WA
Wed, Feb 6 - Skagit Valley College, Mount Vernon, WA
Thu, Feb 7 - Feathered Friends, Seattle, WA
Sat, Feb 9 - Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center, Wenatchee, WA
Tue, Mar 11 - The Mountaineers, Seattle, WA (daytime program, 12pm)
Wed, Mar 19 - Marmot Mountain Works, Bellevue, WA

The program includes slides of skiing the Cascade Crest between 1982 and 2007.  (For the full story, click here .) I'll also show clips from three movies:

"Ski Flight" - Otto Lang at Mt Baker in 1936
"Skiing Cascade Wilderness" - Chuck and Marion Hessey at Lyman Lake in 1956
"Skiing Above the Clouds" - Bob and Ira Spring on Mt Rainier in 1955

I'll also show some slides of a 2005 ski descent in the Glacier Peak Wilderness with my brother Carl and other friends.

I saw the presentation at the Mountaineers clubhouse before the holidays and right after Warren Miller.

It was no question which I enjoyed more!

Hey Lowell,

Any chance of enticing you to come down south of the columbia? I think we could get a large crowd down here in P-town.

I wish I were there to catch the program Lowell. I am sure it is superb.

How about following up JW's "international tour" comment with a presentation in Germany...or even a full tour? I could get you a venue in Trier, where I am now living...  Munich, Berlin...

Hi Snodger,

Sure, I'm willing to do a program in Portland. Send a PM or e-mail if you want to pursue this. For several years I turned down requests to do presentations because I wanted to focus on my book project. But that project has stretched out so much that I decided not to put the rest of my life on hold.

I just got back from a family vacation in the Methow Valley. The presentation in Winthrop was well received and we brought in 150 people for this Methow Conservancy event.

Lowell -

Thanks again for taking the time out of your vacation to share your presentation with a standing room only crowed here in the Methow.

As you state, the show was very well received and I highly encourage all who can to attend one of the upcoming presentations.  The historical and inspirational video footage you have incorporated is absolutely fantastic.  Thanks for the time you put into sharing your adventures and the ski adventures of those before us with the greater community!

J.P.

Hello all-

For those that live towards the north end, Lowell's presentation in Mount Vernon is fast approaching (Wednesday, February 6th, 7:30 pm). Here are some details:

The presentation will be in Ford Hall (Room 101), at Skagit Valley College (www.skagit.edu/images/color_mvCampus.pdf). The club will have a business meeting before the presentation (7:00-7:30); all are welcome to attend and admission is free.

As folks have alluded to above, this is going to be a fantastic presentation. Don't miss it!

Cheers, Jason Griffith
