Peggy and I left the car around 12:30 and followed a day old (probably) skin track up to roughly 4500' where the snow suddenly became much more wind affected.  Dug a quick pit on a short 30 degree WSW slope and found about 20" of gradually increasing density snow down to the crust followed by 30" or so of fairly uniform settling snow to the bushes where I stopped digging.  Didn't perform any stability tests but couldn't get any signs of instability cutting and jumping on our test slope.  I suspect the story may be a little different a few hundred feet higher based on the rapid transition from uniform powder to wind scoured snow at our turnaround point.  Had a wonderful run down the broad gently gladed ridge line and through the trees back to the car.  Lightly snowing the whole time but good visibility.  Snow in the glades and trees was a wonderfully consistent northwest powder.
