Tried for the early morning assault on Castle Peak but were promptly stopped at the gate at Longmire. Gate opened up around 9am and it was snowing hard by then. Parked at Narada Falls and took the trail behind the warming hut to the slog along the road.
In the Castle/Pinnacle saddle there is a hard layer that has formed from all that rain a couple of weeks back that nothing was bonding with. The wind was blowing a bunch of snow onto the N and NE slopes and it was getting pretty sketchy into the early afternoon. Down low in the trees wasnt much better. There isnt much snow pack down there and all the new stuff was shearing off almost to the ground.
