I'm really going to enjoy the cherry tomatoes on my "Summit" salad after they get all bruised and soft transporting them via snowmobile and hefted onto the chair lift. And then unloaded and carried up to "The Summit House Restaurant".

Come on. Just give me some good ole chili in a bread bowl. Like they used to do. If I want to eat a 5 star meal, I'll go to Seattle, to The Sorrento Hotel and enter "The Hunt Club". With a shirt and tie.

This is Crystal Mt, not Vail or Aspen or Deer Valley. Or maybe they want it to be.................

How much worse? I used to camp in the "B" Lot for free. Forest service land , with no ammenities.

Now Crystal wants to charge me $10/night.

Can't really park in the upper lot, unless you have a parking permit, disabled(OK) or staying @ The Alpine Inn, take a tour bus...........

More expensive restaurants...........

Crystal is money, money, money.........

Maybe I should just shut up and go to Baker for $33 midweek.

Thanks for listening!

this is the undeniable sad future of ski resorts that have any mainstream urban population density to draw from as well as tourist pools to compete for. there is no room for local sensitivity and that is the bottom line. "let them eat grass," is what marie antoinette said back in the days of the french revolution, not "cake." this is how it goes with alarmingly more frequency in the ski world. first it was colorado in the eighties, utah in the nineties, and now any place else that the corps. need for greed.
as a result of this priveledged mentality i fight back in any way i can by skiing without a ticket whenever i can, and not paying for anything that is allowable by the standards of the lack of service in most of the cafeterias. the locals are in the eyes of the new corporate mentality expendable and not worth the bother.

Bandit,

Who told you $10 to park in "B" lot? I've heard that rumor for the past couple of years but haven't seen anything on their web site nor have we ever been approached about it while camping there, and we camp there all week long almost every week for the majority of the season (not on weekends, however). I suspect they don't have a legal leg to stand on.

As long as we're complaining, I see they are "planning to open Northway on Dec. 22!" Not any earlier, even if they have sufficient coverage. We've been placing bets on how often they'll actually run that lift midweek. Given their refusal to run Quicksilver and Gold Hills midweek the odds don't look good.

And as long as I've mentioned Gold Hills, here's a final Crystal Mountain customer service vignette to chew on: We've skiied up to that lift midweek while it was running with people on it and been asked if we were residing in the one of the cabins. When we replied in the negative we were not allowed to ride the lift. Apparently our season passes are not good for that chair. That's right, our passes are only good for the lifts that end at overpriced restaurants.

I could go on, but then I suppose we all could.

Thank you my friend. I'll take that cheese, make a little fondue and go to Baker to ski.
