Hey, thanks for the joining the Wesach early season snow ski compaction program! I made some turns in the West Bowl area on Oct. 4 this year and found 70cm at 6000 feet already then! Subsequent days yielded more snow and lower snowline... A point of interest, while completing my september turns (TAY for 2007 ;D) in the East Bowl area this year, I buried my 280cm probe at 6000 feet...and the fat area of snowpack looked like it extended down to about 5000 feet...wouldn't be surprised if that zone maintained the 300cms from last year and is padded with another 150-200cms of early season treats by this point in time. Might be the last year of road access to the ski zone though...unless some heavy brushing work on the alders takes place next year, the scar tissue of the northwest may shut down our summer ski hill. Anyone know someone with a D9?
Cheers: Guido
Will post pics when i figure this thing out as well.

Guido! thank god your safe, I was worried sick...
hey fancy meeting you here man! I suppose you saw my posting (oh yeah it's gary here), be damned if I can figure out how to put photos up though! I don't have any of those fancy shamnsy "web pages" or photo journey shop you-face-tube-book things. Be sure to let me know when you figure out the photo thing. Anyway had an amazing day with Brad, Nyree, Christine (who I'm very happy to report still calls me "Thor"). Get this buddy - there was 13 people up there, yup you read right 13!! Natou had a crew of 5 with him and Phillipe brought 3. Certainly a record for non-shames back country outing in the Terrace area. On another note mrbs.ca is no longer, some wanker bought the domain name and wants to sell it back to us. fughetaboutit. The new mount remo site will be mountremo.ca but it's not up yet. anyway, hope to see you soon, later skater. Oh, and hey - isn't this the greatest site in the world!! I figure only the best in humankind would attempt the ski year round year after year thing. I'm a little envious of the people that live within spitting distance of hood, but oh well.... bet they don't get as much rain as we do ...ahahaha.

GARY!!!!!!!! Great to see you here too; luddite meet neo-luddite..i can't figure the pic thing out either...got no time for further investigations...got studying to do!
Just got back from the Gorge road wrought with dissappoinment...rather than the 70+cm 's you guys got at 1400 meters, i was met with 30 on terrain that was unfriendly with 30cents....twinges of jealousy, gary, er...i mean THOR, twinges of jealousy... Hey, that wesach 150cm was measured at 5000 feet, right? Would that have been right above the 'lunch rocks' below the headwall area? If so, that's a bit of a shallow snowpack microzone...to the lookers left and ion the right in the bowl beneath the chutes the snow accumulates consistently deeper...i think the wind scours that little area a tad...just wanna confirm, because i might have posted some misinformation on the caa website claiming that there was 150cm's sitting on the 300 from last year which i measured middle of september at 6000 feet; that's just below the rollover of the headwall....in the spirit of respecting jurisprudence, i better do some fact checking.
And no need for envy of the 'hood' folks...they ain't got no 7 minute heli flight to a fine selection of personal faves...and the issue of weather well, with their sun come their sun cups...i'll take our local precip kissed golf ball dimpled summer snow any day of an august week! Sun kills summer snow, no need for it.
See you back for shames time mid novemberish.
Cheers; G.S.
Heya buddy. You know as per measurements at 5000', it could very well be my bad. I measured at 3 or 4 locations but only within about 50m (I'll send you an email with photo attached and approx area). Thinking back that area may have been prone to wind effect indeed. Probably won't get back up there until you get back though, heading to queen charlotte, vancouver, then bloody toronto of all places :() oh well gonna catch me a puck game (habs and maple laughs) so some redemption. Talk to you soon mate
