John, Craig, and I met up in Granite Falls around 7 then drove up the Mountain Loop Hwy in heavy mist. We could only hope the forecast for clearing would come true, but we knew that this area can be socked in when everywhere else is clear, so we didn't count on it. The river crossing was easy and the hike and was beautiful. The gully to the pass is filled in nicely with soft snow that made for easy step kicking - could have left the axes and whipits behind.
We kept down to tree line. Climbing back up the mushy snow started out hot and humid, but the wind up higher cooled us nicely, and the Pabst stashed on the summit wet our whistles for the was a cruise. Of course it cleared nicely as we hiked out of the basin back down the trail.
