Inspired by Zap and uninspired by whiteout, snowy 6AM weather at Twin Lakes for the Matterhorn Peak attempt, we bailed to Virginia Lakes. Parked at 9800' and headed up in light snowstorm.  Found breezy conditions only 900' above the car on Black Mountain NE slopes, so we decided just to do a couple laps from there in the calmer, oxygen richer air.

In and out sun was pleasant as was soft fresh powder on a firm base quite like Crystal last Sunday.  Great to salvage some eastern Sierra sun for Tom's birthday tour from a winter storm forecast and questionable start to the day.

I noticed Howard's "Dweeb Report" from Mammoth Lakes last Friday about the upcoming storm.  Virginia Lakes has been one of our favorite touring areas during the past 2 years.  The upcoming high pressure system should provide ideal conditions for some of those long slogs you enjoy.  :)

A bit stormy !  Here's a link to a TR from May 10, 2005 to Black.

You probably couldn't see much of Dunderberg.  Here's a TR from May 3, 2006.
