Androolus and I had our doubts on conditions after coming home from Vantage on Saturday night from a sun filled day cragging. At 845pm the pass temp was about 39 degrees on the east side and 37 on the west and it was pouring like it was time to go home and build the ark. We were up at Alpental in the morning to help teach an ice axe class and when more instructors than students showed up we did what anyone in our position would do...Ha grab the boards and we skinned up to Great Scott Bowl. Plenty of skiers coming out but as we made our way to Pineapple Pass we were all alone. Not one track in sight! We pulled the skins as the sun broke out and made our first run. Ahhhh nice skiing and the perfect line. We hit the bottom and skinned up for another. By the time we made the pass again about six skiers had come over from the resort to share the solitude. As quick as it started it was tracked out and we were on our way. A great unexpected treat. Lots of avy activity in the valley.
How well is the snow lasting in the Alpental valley?  Any bare slopes?  Is there still snow @ the lot?

Telemack- Still lots of snow and good coverage up the Alpental Valley and at the parking lot.  Skip and I skied a few lift-accessed mostly low-angle runs near Great Scott Bowl on the 25th, and were pleasantly suprised to find about 6"+ of fresh untracked snow up high; as cochise mentioned, there was indeed a lot of recent avy activity in the valley (several wet loose slides on steep slopes); also lots of big glide cracks around.  Only bare slopes we saw (from a distance) was where a climax slide had gouged down to an underlying rock slab.
