Yeah I know.....again! Lets just say that I like Alpyback a fair amount and it's close to home. Myself, splitboard Graham and his buddy toured Alyback today. Took a newbie with us, never been outtabounds before. Slowed us up quite a bit as he was on snowshoes with a snowboard. Guess they start boarding and get good before they know better, until they buy a splitboard, which are very cool. Skiined up to the Chair area again with hopes of skiing down to Snow from the col/gap on Chair. I just absolutely love that run for some reason, I think its the scenery, rollers on top with the 2 videogame style chutes on the lower half. Anyways, foiled again by avy conditions. Scotsman taught me to "get the F outta dodge" when it is sketchy. Thanks scotsman. Skied back down to Source and then skinned up to the top of No Fog for a great run in great snow. Wish I could've gotten more vert today, but the newbie was struggling most of the day. Pleasantly surprised at the ammount/quality of the new snow. No crust, just pow on top off slush made for great turns all day, even had a few faceshots in the steeper narrower slots. Maybe not pow, but real close. Up in the chair bowl there was at least a foot, probably a good amount of wind transport, but no noticeably heavy winds when we were up there. Graupel happened as we were about to ascend to the gap and drop the North slope and began flowing down hill very rapidly, like water easily filling in the skin track in between skiers spaced maybe 50 feet apart. Didn;t like that so much, turned back. The sound of all this flowing graupel was very eerie. Great day of unexpected nice conditions, actually it was really good and should probably tell the boss i'm feeling ill for tomorrow...
