Does anyone have any info on when WSDOT plans to open I-90, beyond that provided on their website or phone line? Any help/advice/pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I heard this evening on AM 1610 at North Bend that residents of the Snoqualmie pass area can get access to the pass! This stinks in my eyes. If it is that unsafe to drive from 34 to 56 or so why is it safe for pass residents to drive there. Do they have a shadow watching over them? I wrote a long email to WSDOT and to the WSDOT Ombudsman regarding this wrongfull restriction, and I would encourage other backcountry users to flood them with emails to convince them to change their evil ways!
Lots of good snow country off limits for no real reason!

WSP and WSDOT seem to be working round the clock, so I think it wouldn't hurt to cut 'em some slack. I was up there last night and the current restrictions actually make sense. The westbound lanes are completely blocked, so they are sending convoys of cars with police escort up and down the eastbound lanes. Heading down this morning we had to cut across the median at mile 45. This works for a handful of cars once every 3 hours, but not for the amount of traffic I-90 normally gets. Until the westbound lanes are cleared and safe, I can't really think of a better alternative... can you?

Looking back at things -- it's not really all that suprising that we've had avalanches of epic proportions in the cascades.
The mountains have recived over 5 feet of snow since Sunday -- and this is what all that snow fell on:

Talk about a weak layer!!!

Check out this scene from the westbound lanes of I-90, an area that rarely slides onto the freeway.
