This past weekend Aaron and I visited ex-Oregonians Andy and Ann in Salt Lake City. Andy and Ann moved their last Spring from Gresham. On Friday we headed to the Cardiff fork area which we accessed via Big Cottonwood Canyon. For our first run we skinned up to a shelf about 3/4 of the way up Cardiac Ridge. Looking up at the Cardiac Ridge area from it's base:

The snow was quite variable. Although we found pockets of nicer snow, we also found lots of breakable crust. Here's Aaron and Andy in the pockets of nicer snow:

Next we headed up the center of Cardiff fork. This provided a lot of neat views. The snow wasn't too great (more variable snow and crust), but it was neat to finally be in a place we had seen and heard so much about. We ended the day pretty early.

The next two days we spent lift skiing at Alta. Alta was great. It offered lots of interesting terrain and the snow was pretty good. On Saturday at Alta we had Spring-like conditions and on Sunday we had 7"s of new.
