I'll save the dawn patrols for the youngsters out there, and I think I'll have to start a new website called turns-a-year now that I am working and going to school.
Decided to check out early from work today and head up to Kachess Ridge above Exit 53 on I-90. It wasn't hard to talk my wife into gathering our kit up and meeting me in Factoria around 11:30 for some afternoon turns. We were up and skinning through the trees by 1pm. No speed records heading up. The snow had nice ice crystals on it after we left the big trees, but it also was a breakable crust. It was sunny out with filtering in clouds.
After using a ski to carve out a decent south facing place to sit, we left the top around 3pm or so. The only wind this afternoon was at the very top, and that was just a little breeze. The snow near the top was decent enough corn. It was pretty tracked up from last weekend. Those old tracks were a little stiff and hard to turn on, otherwise nice corn. About half way down, it turned to breakable crust and survival skiing, where your tails don't want to turn. At the bottom of the clear cut, back at the big trees we decided to boot it out.
Nice to be outside. Hope you guys have a great weekend.
