Alarm went off at 5:30, and I saw a soft salmon-colored glow through the window shades- were the forcasters right?? A full inch or so on the ground in Ravenna, yet the Pass cams show clear roads, and cold. cold: 11 degrees. Bizarre weather for sure. Pot of coffee, and off at 6am. Roads were fine until Issaquah, from there to Exit 38 there was zero vis- lots of dry, blowing show, impossible to see any lane markers at all, so I just crawled behind a semi and hoped they had it dialed in. Past exit 38, beautiful weather- wispy dry-smoke snow swirling across the lanes, the first time I've seen that effect on I-90 for sure.
Hyak lot was empty- I expected to see a few others, but maybe no-one else was "smart" enough to make the drive? ;) It was damn cold, single digits for sure, so it was a mad rush to pull on boots and get skining before I froze. 2-4 inches of beautiful dry sugar snow over the rock hard crust from 10 days ago. Skinned behind the trees (climber's right) and was suprised to find another tourer at the top of the Keechelus lift- usual introductions, and found out Brandon (?) was demo'ing some Bakers and the new funky spaceship Dynafits from Marmot, pretty sweet setup. The run down Greyson's was suprisingly good- little fluff rooster tails to boot. Ran a second lap, to find a solid 2 inches on the car. Back down to Bellevue the roads were a serious mess- four or five cars in the ditch, some facing the wrong way, and State Patrol all over. Rain in Issaquah, hopefully it doesn't freeze...
