Anyone know if there's a way around the current road damage closure on 542? See here:
WA DOT
It's at MP 35-36, between FS 3904 and the N Fork bridge -- I'm thinking that's too far out to have an easy way around, but I don't know the roads that well.
Hot air balloon?
Thanks!

No way around that puppy. It sounds like the Glacier Creek Road is accessible, which might be an alternate destination. But I suspect that this road, too, will be closed by storm damage well before you smell snow.

So they have 542 listed as moderate impact. Im curious to what they mean by this. Do have is listed as moderate impact because it doesnt affect commuters really? Or do they mean moderate impact as in the road isn't extremely damaged? Any know how bad the road really is?

Closed in both directions with debris on the roadway, not sure about damage.
But yeah, the DOT's impact levels are based on commuter and business impact, no my fun-time, sadly...

The road closure is above all residences, so the impact would not be high -- commercially. Where the road is closed, there is no creek or bridge, so I am thinking that they had a mudslide push some alder over onto the road. Unless there is damage to the Douglas Fir bridge, I suspect that they will have the road open quickly.

Talked with some patrollers from Baker today who drove down to Seattle, and they said the road was "passable," though I'm not sure that necessicarily means "open," FYI.
