Spent Thanksgiving at Rogers Pass staying at the Best Western.  Plans for going to the Asulkan Cabin gave way to day trips to Grizzly Shoulder, Hermit, Ursus Trees, McGill Mtn, and Cheops.  Conditions were excellent, with light Selkirk powder and good stability.  Had 5 to 10 cm new most days.  Coverage was above normal for this time of year.  On Hermit and Grizzly experienced some thrashing through slide alder at bottom of runs, but not too bad.  By Monday, temps had dropped to -17C with strong winds, and bitter cold.  Local visibility was good with occassional glimpses of more distant peaks.  Saw a few other parties each day, but not overly crowded.  The help at the visitor center from Chris was great, with good knowledge of conditions and advice.  A bit regimented in their sign in process, but worthwhile.  Didn't watch Seattle weather, so was surprised to find wintery conditions all the way home on Mon and a 12 hour drive (not bad considering it took some 6 hours to commute home after work).  Ran into Grania Devine who runs the Selkirk Lodge who I had seen for 10 years.

Welcome back!!  Sounds like you guys had a great Thnx trip.  Hope to see more pics sometime.

Thanks Paul. I was wondering what conditions were like up there. What are the background peaks in your pic? Is that on the way to Cheops?

Matt

Six of us from Bham were up there as well.  We were staying at the Asulkin.  Had a wonderful Thanksgiving at the cabin with all the fixin's--stuffing, turkey, mashed taters and gravey and pumpkin pie.  It took us five hours to put in the track to the Asulkin.  We were breaking trail up to our thighs in the trees below the Hut.  The skiing, as you noted, was sublime.  Pretty quiet up at the head of the Asulkin until the weekend.

Hey Gregg,
Glad you guys had a great Thanksgiving at the hut.  Sorry we miss seeing you, but we really enjoyed the comfort of the BW.  We thought of heading up there for Sunday night, but looked like the winds were going to be pretty fierce and cold.

Nice pic there of Mike enjoying the pow  :)

Paul
