It is a 9.5 hour drive from central Seattle to the trailhead at Bonanza Creek at the N end of Slocan Lake. Our party of 11 was led by noted Canadian ski tourer Alf Skrastins of the University of Calgary (8 telemarkers, 2 AT, and 1 on telemark, AT, and a snowboard). Our guide, Albi Sole, acted a lead heli-guide for 13 years and is highly capable in all aspects. Hut is at ~5700. It snowed ~6" the day of our arrival and ~4" more in small doses throughout the week. Excellent and extensive tree skiing in selectively logged areas. We cautiously skied a few small bowls (~500vf). One day we toured to Caribou Ridge (14 miles) and another to the flanks of Mt. Vingoth above Shannon Lake (10 miles). We deliberately kicked off a Class 1 avalanche (hard slab, wind deposition) on a ridge traverse. Noted numerous cracks propagating even on low angle slopes; nothing else happened, but the potential was there. Skied terrrain from 5000' to 8000'; dry, unconsolidated powder; ~5000vf daily starting at 9 am and returning 5-6 pm. Hut has a 2 KW hydro system with lights, refrigerator, coffee maker, baseboard heaters, drying room fan, propane oven and hot water tank (showers), sauna, 6+ bedrooms (I had a room to myself!), hot and cold running water, indoor toilets.
Looks like a great trip, Brent.
Thanks for sharing it.
