I have been skiing here this year both in August and this month. This is my first rpt. and I've been checking Turns All Year for a couple years. We broke the record for snowfall, '06 by 4 ft. (Mammoth Mtn.) which has allowed for turns past mid-Aug., typical in a big year.
The average vertical is 350 - 400 ft. This allows for the usual 20 turn runs which I do with Salomon Snowblades. The main peaks here are Mt. Conness, 12,500' and North Peak. The trailhead is at Saddlebag Lake, 10,100'.
You can check out photos and other trip reports by entering Saddlebag skiing on Yahoo search.
There are a variety of spots to ride here.
My old stomping grounds! As soon as Tioga Pass would open each Spring or Summer, we would go dirtbag camp at the Mammoth area hot springs and ski all over the pass area. Here is a picture of me skiing either Tioga Pass or Saddlebag area in June 1993.
