I couldn't help myself but to run up and check the snow level with how white the runs on Mission Ridge were looking from Wenatchee today. I figured I might as well bring my rock board, just in case. It turned out there was a couple hundred yard long section of the Tumwater run (the part that is a collector for the some of the double black runs off the top) that was flat enough and smooth enough to glide over carefully. Instead of "September turns", "Careful september straightline so as to avoid rocks" is a more accurate description. It looks like 6 or so inches of snow fell up there. I was also up at Stehekin for the last couple days where fire lookouts had reported 8-10 inches of snowfall and by the looks of the peaks in that area I believe it. Winter is coming, I can't wait!
I could see that new snow from Ellensburg and was wondering how much fell up there. I was wishing i was up there and I'm glad someone was able to get some turns.
Way to go mej.
I would have been up there with you if I would have followed my instincts and packed some skis.
We hiked up to Earl Peak on Saturday. No snow there. There was at least one familiar tay name in the newly placed summit register though.
BTW the picture I took the liberty of posting was from sunday near Saddle Rock.
