I was at Austria at Jenuary February March.I cycled from Turkey to Austria last September October November than I got my ski gear in the beginning of Jenuary and did ski touring in Austria. I stay at the huts and meet people there and did ski touring. I usualy stay 3 to 5 day each hut. I tought it my be help full this information who will visit there.
First off all I got membership of Austrian Alpine Club in Wien (Osterrich alpenverein) this help me to get some discount at huts system

Austrian Alpine Club hut book is very usefull book for me too. In the book they have every information about hut , snow condition, train and how to get there by bus, train and taxi combination. I have a car but you my not even need that. Book has information about 1000 hut

on the othe hand # 3 Tirol Vorarberg (freytag&berndf) is a great road map, sold almost every food store. Because it shows every single hut location It is a great map.
My favorite place is skiing at Granatspitze, Sunnbilick,Weibsee Rodolf Hutte area south of Grossglockner at tawn of UTTENDORF. Rudolf hutte connected to the ski lift area , it is top of to the ski lift area.There is a lift skiing option too, not many different run option.
HUT is ONLY $25 A DAY including all you can eat high qualty breakfast and dinner.
From the hut Granatspitz 3086 , and Sonblick 3088 is a day trip tour . Skiing south of Medlzkorp and Tauernkogel peak and coming back from south of Granatspitze is another good trip. Taurnmoosse lake area is another option. I did this trips to join people who come to Hut for ski touring.
On the other hand Hut has a hanging climbing wall.
Itis a great ski touring area for 3-4 day option with a great hut with $25 price including great breakfast and dinner.

Excellent post...really enjoyed the slideshow! It motivates me to book a flight today to the Alps, a dream of mine since I was a kid. Thanks for the great photos...
