What ever happened to the slush cup at Mt Baker by the old Austin Pass rope tow.  It was always on the July 4th weekend.  The last time I went was in the early 70s.  Soon after I heard that the Feds some how put a stop to it.  Seems to me that the pond, when in good form, was well over a hundred feet across, and deep.  People brought all manner of devices, boats (these were real boats made of wood or glass), rubber rafts, huge tobogans, and assorted Rube Goldberg contraptions that would bring tears to the eyes of any shovel racer.  It was a gas, especially with the Canadians stirring the pot.  I was hoping to go to this event to relive old glories but my wife had other plans, (with as it happens with old ski friends from that era).

Looks like it was an awesome time for sure!  Nice work on the photograph y'all!  Hopefully next year's slush cup will fall on a weekend that I'm not away on vacation  Cool

Looks like too much fun.  Grin

Snoslut, thanks for the invite. Too bad the date didn't work with our Washington road trip schedule.  We were living the high life in Victoria on Sunday.

The Olympics were amazing and we are envious of your beautiful mountains.

Sounds like a damn fun time!!   Sigh.. yesterday was my last chance to skip out on work and get in some August turns to work on becoming a "ski streaker".   Grin   Oh well, I did get in nine ski months in a row, before August.... longer streak by far than I've ever had.  Maybe next summer I'll be more motivated to hike long distances with skis on my back.    Cool  Actually last weekend I went to Whistler and I was totally wishing I'd brought the skis, but we had fun mountain biking all the same.

Have a great September, all!  See you either for late-October turns, or maybe for Snowbash at the Tractor Tav or something like that.

Sorry to have missed it...looked like a sweet time...but surf was calling my name.

Did Marcus set off a tidal wave when he fell in???

I hope Pete pulled one of these again

where were ya surfin' Matt?

Marcus' teledaddies pretty much let him walk on water...i need to bring fatter skis next year.

And no flippy-flips by me...I'll only go head over heels into neck deep Fairy Meadows powder (one of these days I might even try it with skis on  Wink )
though if you ever see me surf you'll see me flip plenty of times when I get put through the washing machine.

I finally cranked out a slush cup video... enjoy!

(and if you plan to watch it more than once, be nice and right-click-save-link-as so I don't run in to bandwidth problems)

Nice work Phil.
Fun to relive the day from your fine camera and editing work.
Great shots of the jumps.

It was fun to finally meet the authors of many exciting tour reports.
Keep the good work!
