A quick spin up to Muir to get my August turns in. The work to fun ratio was a little off on this one...
Snow starts at around 7300 ft, the first 500 ft or so is pretty nice, pretty ugly for another 500 ft, and seriously grim above that, with large (1-2 foot) suncups/sunridges, mixed slow, soft snow and ice patches. Talked with several folks who said the last 1000 ft to the Hut were an even bigger mess, so I didn't head any higher. The skiing was marginal at best....

First trip out on Dynafits, and I now understand the bizarre cult-like following; my pack felt sooo light on the boot pack up.
If you are needing to get turns in, I would try and get out soon before it gets un-skiable.

thanks for the report!  what is your definition of "un-skiable"?  ;D

Well, I suppose I should clarify- soon, the last shred of fun will melt and/or evaporate, leaving behind nothing but work. Seriously though, the skiing at 2pm yesterday was really not enjoyable (except for the views and sunshine) and the later it gets into August....
