theres still plenty of skiing on mt hood,, much of the upper mountain is sucupped and runnelled, i found a nice line from the far west off the summit ridge that was really clean ,, started at the parking lot at timberline, followed easy trail up to the crater,, climbed the central snow route about forty degress at the steepest lookers right of the hogsback (which is totally out),,, traverersed west and a little down on the narrow summit ridge a ways to the western most possible south faceing snow descent into the crater which was a narrow and very short couloir, a few steep turns up high, then quickly mellowed out to around 40 or upper 30s as i got into the bowl, nice smooth snow down the fall line,, then traversed cuppy and runnelled snow over to the east,, and descended gradually smoothing mellow snow next to the climbing trail,, there was a little section with no snow a "couple hundred feet" then continous mellow angle snow to just outside the parking lot at timberline,, after the section with no snow,, the snow is completly smooth,
Did you get a look at the Zig Zag Glacier?
Hi Dan, thanks for your recent TRs and snow information. Could you please include the date in the topic (subject) line when you start a TR thread? I have added it on this thread, assuming that you skied yesterday. If this is not correct, you can edit it yourself, same way you would edit the message. Thanks.
i didnt get a good look at the zig zag,, it did look like there was alot of smooth snow off in that direction from what little i could see of it, ,, clouds developed from about 8 to 9k when i got up high,,
