After reading the report from kjack (thanks Keith :)) from the prior week, my plans locked in on Mt. McLoughlin. I got to the trailhead via the Four Mile Lake Road on Friday evening after getting blocked on FS Rd. 3650. On the trail by 6:00am Saturday, I was hoping I wouldn't get to the summit too late to try the was inviting. I found no evidence of the snow breaking loose, so I let it rip. The corn was perfectly ripe and the runnels and sun cups were minimal. Niiiice! Grin city. Skied down a ways through the trees before finally having to put the skis on the pack. The bushwack out was a chore, but I cheated by using a GPS so I was able find my way back to the truck by 1:00pm without much hassle. I retrieved the refreshments I had stashed at the trailhead snowbank, enjoyed the sunshine, but got chased out by the 'skeeters.
I took the long way home to scope out North Side which still looks prime.

Excuse my ignorance, but where is this? Is it in Oregon?

Yes, it is in Southern Oregon. Mt. McLoughlin is east of Medford on Hwy 140. Bailey is just north of Crater Lake NP.
Good to hear you got to ski the bowl. We're planning on South Sister this weekend. Have you (or anyone else) heard anything on conditions there? We're hoping to ski from car to car, but I don't know what the chances of that are...
