May 14, Red Mountain

Left the car at 7:50am.  Skinned to the base of Red and partway up the gully that leads to the west face, then booted to the summit, arriving about 1pm.  Perfect corn on the way down for the upper 2/3rds of the west face, then started to get pretty gloppy below and especially in the gully.  JP torqued his knee somewhat in a fall here and we had to take it easy on the rest of the way out.  We descended back to the car on skis most of the way, carrying them only across a couple of flat spots.  Doug-fir needles and other forest duff covering the snow in the basin probably scraped off whatever wax we had left.  Total round trip time 8 hrs.
