April 29, 2006 Slot Couloir
« on: 05/01/06, 11:28 PM »

Skied the Slot on Saturday. We got a late start from the Alpental parking lot and skinned directly up the Phantom. Summited at about 12:30 with the intention of skiing down the Crooked. However the Crooked is currently guarded by a large cornice across the entire entrance. While standing on the cornice I managed to knock off a smallish snowball from the bottom. We watched as the snowball created a minor little wet slide. That was enough to make us look elsewhere for our turns. The slot was shaded so stability wasn't the issue that it had been on the Crooked. It had been skied just before us though so we had several sets of tracks to contend with. Seeing that the snow conditions relatively safe, we decided to go for it. The run itself was Ok. Wet and the sloppy at times but overall it was pretty good. The exit area was sun baked and getting pretty slidey. We quickly skinned out and over the notch to enjoy some deep corn on the phantom.

Got back to the car just in time to enjoy the afternoon's passing storm.
