Ryan, Cliff, and I had designs on a morning tour up to the west slopes off Kendall Peak. Some circuitous routefinding (Ryan's geography degree didn't seem to be working properly), warming temperatures, and the clock found us skiing a couple laps in the clearcut instead. It turned out to be a great consolation prize, 8-12 inches of "powder" - consolidating rapidly as of 1pm when we left. Lots of pinwheels up to basketball size with every turn off the ridge. Fresh wax on my skis made for really fun turns.
Ryan set off a small slab on a roll near the bottom west side of the clearcut on our way out. The slab was about 6 inches deep and ran a few hundred feet down a gully on relatively low angle terrain. Not scary given the terrain, but this small slide did make me feel better about not making it up to the steeper, bigger slopes that were our initial goal.
Weather was beautiful with sun breaks and high clouds all morning. A few light flurries started just as we were leaving. We only saw one other party up there.
