I agree with you but there is some reasons why Crystal is closing April 16th first is that they are on USFS land so they would have to get the Okay from them Second Attendence is declining at a rapid pace ( the reason they stayed open this week is because its school Spring Break which Equals $$$$$$$$$) They have been open almost six months Since Nov 4th and they feel that people are all skied out. I agree with you since they do have a 150 inch bases but Not everybody is a hardcore and for the most part Hardcores have Seasons Passes which equals no $$$$$$$$$
PS You can almost bet that Crystal will open for Summer skiing Though

Teter... could you please expand on the notion of summer skiing. Do they run lifts for the summer vacation crowd? And they could make money?

Long long... ago in a galaxy far far away...g (ok it was 1996...)
Yeah 10 years does go by fast but I won't forget the green valley turns from that season. I believe tix were $20/day for the 3-6 weeks they were open that summer. It was a good time sunny and 60+ degrees sloppy as hell by 12 noon....
However this was pre boyne days....I would agree though that a summer opening for a few weeks would be novel enough for Boyne to make a go at it.

it was only a few short years ago in 02, open weekends till mid june, had to down load cause of elk habitat, such a good time. The new owners at the time were putting on a really good show, I think they do a good job representing lift service skiing. But springtime is for bootpacking corn

When I wrote to Boyne Inc. I asked them if they thought the upturn in Tele and AT sales had anything to do w/ areas closing w/ plenty of snow. When there's no snow like last season, and you buy a pass, it's your bad luck. When there's plenty of snow, and they close, it's cost effective???? I shared with them the fact that off piste is "cost effective" too. Now I feel so much better about shelling out for my AT set-up.
I've done most of my skiing in the East. I skied Whiteface last Spring when it was about 50/50 snow to grass on the lower mountain. I skied Snowbird late May and early June. Mt Hood Meadows is staying open till the end of the month, and Baker is open weekends. I just don't think that Boyne Inc. respects the skiers who keep them in business. My cardio system, and my wife, will thank the folks at Boyne Inc. cause I'm not buying a pass next year.
