June Mt. is about 15 miles north of Mammoth just off 395. It is part of Mammoth and has a shuttle connecting the 2 mountains. Your Mammoth lift ticket can be used at June. Again, we used our Whistler Edge cards and received half price lift tickets for $26. June had received 26 inches during the same storm that hit Mammoth. This is one of those laid back ski areas that is not on anybodys ski list but has some great terrain and no crowds.

The lower part of the mountain normally has low coverage but 26 inches provided excellent coverage on the steep terrain. The lower lift opens at 7:30am and provides access to the lodge. On a powder day, you can start skiing at 7:30 and cycle the best terrain. It would be a challenge to ski all the lines available.

We spent the day in high overcast and skied the groomers and untracked in the trees. There is excellent backcountry access to San Joaquin Mt. from the summit lift. The ski patrol can provide excellent beta on nearby tours. Another storm is heading for Tahoe so it was a short day.

Zap & Jill
