We've all looked up at this perfect run on our way up to Snoq. Pass. It's the nice, straight swath cut through the trees between Denny Creek and the Pass summit proper, on the south side of the road.I have been eyeing this line since 1997, and Lara has been since 2000, so we planned a few weeks ago to hit it today. Friend Alex joined us, and was the lead skier down the trail once we reached the top. Generally speaking, this run is melted out before this time, but since our Ullr blessing this season is still more than ample, we were able to ski all the way to I-90.
We started at the base of Silver Fir chair, and followed the nordic trail out to where we could see the powerline leading to the in-run. It was a nice, quiet friendly tour up, and we made it to top of run in about 1 hour. Finding our way from the true top of the run took a few minutes, and then we got into about 750' vert of nice soft snow. After that, the sun-affect crust began to increase, until the last 300' of vert were very huffy-puffy. We came out at the top of the Iron Horse tunnel leading through the mountain out to Hyak, and eventually picked our way down to Rockdale Creek. We did one minor creek ford, and popped out to the freeway in time to greet many surprised drivers. The looks on their faces said, "You've got skis, but you're not hitching a ride to the Pass? Like, what's up??!"
I've been sop busy thiis winter that the touring has been non-existant since October. Lots of in-bounds turns. However, now that # 101 is REALLY in the books, and my real season has begun, I'm itchin' to get to all of the lines on my list! HAPPY TRACKS TO ALL....

Nice work! I've been eyein' that line since about 1983 (of course that was long before I even had the ability to ski such slopes and was still learning how to snowplow at Alpental  ), but still have never skied it...

There COULD be mandatory air, depending on age and ability. I have too much of one, and not enought of the other. However, Alex seemed to think that the face, about 50' of vert, was feasible. He's a MUCH better skier than I, however.

You must be talking about the top of the slope. Can one gain enough speed to launch that proper? Maybe if you made a slingshot with the powerline posts you could do it

Lara the photographer here...will be posting a few photos shortly. As for hucking the top, yes it's possible, but you've got to hit it just right. You also need to be able to check yourself before the next set of towers not too far down from your landing sight

Yep, I hitched back to the pass and left the 2 guys on the side of the road. Okay...I just happened to pick up the car and come back for them

I saw you guys along the road, almost pulled a 3 lane "jersey style" turn to pick you up. However, I thought that would endanger the kids in the back seat. 
My 3 year old ripped it up that day on little thunder

Great run-who has not driven by that and wondered about skiing that slope. I used to dream of skiing the old line I think on the lookers left before they put in the one you skied.
I could be mistaken. And I don't want to be a kill joy.
There was a time when that run was off limits and illegal.
Only the highway department was allowed to access that area.
Also, skiing from Alpental chair 2 to the old highway.
Something about endangering the highway for avalanches?
The word was, if the WSP found you on the on the road, there were were seriously hefty fines levied.
Anybody know if that still is WSP policy?
