We spent the night in the large parking area at Silver Mtn where we got an overnight parking permit for $10. We received 1" of snow overnight, but there was a light drizzle at the base of the gondola at 2300' in the morning. The gondola takes 25 minutes to arrive at Mountain House at 5,700' , the end of the gondola ride. The top of Kellogg Peak is 6,300' and the base of Chair 4 is 4,100' so its 2,200vt with 1600 acres, plus the backcountry terrain is BIG.

6'' fell overnight and it was fast paced. After 2 hours the temperature became mild. With 5 lifts and treed terrain there are enormous areas with glades cut thru the tree terrain. The terrain under the gondola seems doable, BUT it is dangerous and ends in gullies with ???? so bring your skins to get out unless you have a guide. In the "old days" there was road access to chair 4 area, and it was called Jackass Ski Bowl and was started in 1968. Old chairs with a gondola that provides access to the mountain for skiing. Silver Mtn also has golf and the development of townhomes.

An interesting thing about of Kellogg, ID is Dave Smith Motors. Checkout it out on Wikipedia: Dave Smith Motors. ;)
