Heavier snow today added up to softer open runs and better closed runs. Though it was raining at the bottom, it snowed all day from just a few hundred feet up the hill. The Avalanche Danger Closed signs we're up, so I could not go higher than the Roundhouse today. I traversed over to GS and caught foot deep snow, but with enough trees and odd bumps, that caution was required. The higher Alpine looked like blizzard conditions all day. Forecast calls for this continuing all week with steady, but not massive snowfall...Backcountry looks to be harsh in many ways for the foreseeable future... Persistent weak layer, wind, storm slab, shallow cover, and bad weather. Inbounds should be getting better every day for the strong and motivated. Alpine opening still hard to predict.
