March 8th, 2006, Summit Central/Hyak

Headed to Snoqualmie Pass during rush hour. Picked up my new gear on the way up. Very few people were heading up to the pass. My plan was to tour up Hyak and take advantage of the powder. Unfortunately someone else beat me to it. The Grooming Monster! So instead of trying to avoid the grooming machine I went to Central, which actually was a lot of fun. The snow was falling fast enough to fill in the tracks and the mountain was empty. There were big wind gusts which blew "stinging" snow into my face.<br><br>To complete the evening I hiked up to the top of the Silver Fir Chair and enjoyed some nice deep turns. Then I hiked to Hyak, and had to break trail until meeting up with the Hyak runs, which were groomed. &gt; No headlamp required even after all the lights were turned off. I found some powder under the chair to finish the night. The next few days should be good!!!<br><br>Happy Turns.
