Third time's a charm. The road is open to the top, and there is an 850 foot run that starts about 50 below the lookout and skis north about to the thick timber in the Pasayten River drainage. Really great conditions today. Smooth, no stick, just a bit of slough. The lower portion will not last long.

If you want to ski this patch, you don't have to walk up to the lookout. You can walk part way up, and then take the
West Fork Pasayten trail around the corner to the north. That is how I came back to the car, and it was better.

Coming up from my second run, I met an all female group on an 18 day (not a typo) Pasayten wilderness loop. They had started at Ross Lake. They told me I was the first person they had seen in four days and that they had a re-food stash, but had started out carrying 11 days of food and fuel. They had an electric fence to put around their food. What an adventure!

18 day walk!

Carrying eleven days of food? That's hard core!

Seriously.

How do you power an electric fence for 11 days in the backcountry? Big capacitor or something that gives the bear one good shock?
I could see that not working out so great with a determined bear.

If I had to walk 11 days AND keep to my self-imposed pack-weight limit I'd starve to death.

Nice turns and what a group you ran into! Lugging a car battery(?) and fence in addition to their food is quite the effort!
