Figured if I was going to make the annual pilgrimage to the Mighty Mount Pilchuck I better get on it. One can drive to the end, or very close depending on how brave you are. Also be aware that there are terrible potholes lower down--worst I can remember. Lower section nearly continuous but certainly won't be in a week. Had to remove skis in a few places. As usual with Pilchuck this time of year you pay the price down low, but the upper slopes were excellent smooth corn (except as noted below!) See photos. Lower section of SE Gully (aka Gunsight) has lower than normal coverage and rocks on the skiers left, which forced me over right where the sun don't shine into nasty steep ice. Not too much but be prepared. I kept far right on ridge which was lovely corn, but if you are not familiar with this place, be aware that there are many big cracks and cliffs. Stop look and listen. One of the best, and most challenging, shorter tours close to town.
