April 26-27, 2019 Squaw Valley

Another 2 hour drive from Susanville,CA to Squaw Valley for the opening. We had planned to ski at Alpine Meadows, BUT they only had 1 lift running. Yes, I could not believe it - only one lift. The lift was the Summit express with a lot of terrain (but still...). They closed the backside: Scott, Lakeview, Hot Wheels, and Sherwood lifts. OK, now for the real stuff at Squaw Valley.

Squaw had the following lifts running: Aerial Tram, Funitel, KT22 express, Siberian express, Big Blue express, Gold Coast express, Shirley Lake express, Granite Chief, Emigrant, Mountain Meadow, plus one more. It started warm and got hotter. We stopped about noon. Both the groomers and the ungroomed were soft, and getting softer. This is Friday and tomorrow will bring out the masses.

Saturday we were in the Funitel lift line at 8:45am. We cycled off the Siberian express until other folks arrived. The terrain parks were wonderful and we cut fresh tracks until the "jumpers" arrived and then we moved over to the Shirley Lake express. No waiting in the lift line by going in the "singles" line. Then we rode the Granite Chief lift and skied the steep groomers in perfect conditions. At 11:30am it was hot and time to ski down. We had 2 great days of typical spring skiing at Squaw Valley.
