The day started with sun in Minden, NV at 4750'. When we reached Carson Pass at 8570' it was snowing and blowing "hard". The winds caused the closure of the Kirkwood Backside lifts. The front lifts were open but the winds caused a "can you see the trail along the crest" situation. Fresh powder and more powder falling made it a special powder day. Few folks were on the hill, BUT there were 2 young women in bikinis celebrating spring break . Yes, it was cold and snowing and blowing, but the bikini team had one snowboarder and one skier. Truly a special day. ;)

Great reports Zap. It's hard to believe, with the amount of snow at in Tahoe, that Vail is closing the Wood down April 14th. The Wood (and Heavenly), back in the day, would to stay open at least to Memorial day. Then, when all of the south shore resorts closed, we would go ski Squaw, as Squaw, with all south shore resorts closed, would then accept season passes from all south shore resorts. Also back then, Alpine Meadows stayed open as long as possible, and if we brought ski patrol a case of cheap beer we could get 4 free tickets from them any time we wanted to ski there.
When all the resorts closed we would hike Tallac, and other peaks, or drive out to the patches by Red Lake to ski the rest of the summer and fall. The good ole days of skiing 200+ days a year and being young.
