March 17, 2019, Summit Central-Crampon Day

Yes, last week it was powder and today it was a crampon day. Before we head south, I just needed a "spring day". I put on my crampons at the base of Central Express lift at 8am before they started loading. I have learned to put on my crampons BEFORE I need them and not when the line is steeper and I am sliding backwards! Putting crampons on on steep slopes is a pain. My crampons attach to the ski base and are not sliders, but they're always there. Being in my 70's, I've learned the slopes will still be there as I climb slowly with good traction. The Alpine trail has a nice steep area that was "easy" to climb and fun to ski. The ski patrol team was out and I reached the top of the Central lift just as the paid customers were loading. Spring is crampon season with a few more "powder days", hopefully. ;)
