So is that a half hour more or less with daylight savings time? Still a long time before sunset.

I suspect availability of law enforcement staff is more of a factor than amount of daylight for the gate schedule.  They sometimes open about a half-hour early on weekends without new snow.

Traditionally, the Longmire gate was opened 24/7 when the Paradise Inn was open for the season ('mid-May').  Last Spring, the NPS lengthened the hours a couple times and stopped locking the gate a couple weeks before the Inn opened.  That info was just posted on Twitter when it happened.  FWIW, opening time was about 8:20 both mornings this weekend.

Apparently, since April 14th Paradise is open 24/7, except when it's not:  https://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/road-status.htm
