March 10, 2019, Willman's Spire Gully
« on: 03/12/19, 07:59 PM »

Erik contacted me earlier last week and asked if I was interested in some skiing up in the Mountain Loop. Funny thing was I was already thinking the same. We knew the conditions were going to be prime to ski something fun, so we set off early Sunday morning.
Getting up to Monte Cristo with sleds was a breeze from the Deer Cr. gate closure, and had us skinning past the old town site around dawn. We opted to go up and around the north side of Mystery hill to avoid the steeper direct climb towards Willman's Spire.
We hit the base of the couloir around 8:30 and Erik pretty much ran to the top as we found almost optimal booting conditions with a firm base where any sluffing had occurred. Once out of the couloir we found pretty icy conditions and decided it wasn't worth the ski side step down from the last little summit pitch.
The skiing was almost as good as it gets for steepish skiing. There were spots of ice, so we had to ski a bit in check, but didn't even have much in the way of sluffing.
The Mountain Loop delivers the fun having.

Great work, both skiing and some of your best POV yet - esp. following Eric. I also liked the fall!

This is the north couloir of Wilmans Peak, correct? The one that ascends to the summit plateau of the peak. Not the couloir that climbs up between east and west Wilmans Spires. Just checking.

Lots of people post skiing videos, many are interesting, but few rise to the level of ski porn. Nicely done.

Looks like a sweet trip fellas! Nice vid to boot. Those are some characteristically compact ripper ES turns.

From someone who doesn't see FB, thanks for posting here.

In that vein, if not too much to ask, please post overview pic and/or ID info here too.  I wonder if this is one of the lines i gaped at with ES on another trip to that magical land.
