Great day to be outside, blue bird sky all around and moderate avalanche danger.

Started around 8:50a. Really good skin track laid down to the slot entrance, going mostly through the trees and not the phantom slide. Boot pack around 5700ft wasn't really necessary. Overall made good time to the couloir entrance in 2.5h. Lots of people before and after us, quite a change from our last time there when we were all alone. Took some pictures of another skier dropping in but I never got the chance to share them with him...

Dropped into the couloir (11:30a) which had quite a few track already but still good powder, then broke a ski about 50 yards in! Made the rest of the downhill considerably harder :) Thanks to the three ladies who helped out by lending/giving a ski strap to McGiver-fix the broken ski. Skinning back to the Ridge wasn't too bad even with the broken ski. Reached the Ridge at 1:30p.

Getting back to the car was the struggle, alternating 1-ski on corn and just booting downhill. What was supposed to be a 20-min downhill turned into 1.5h endeavor. Got back to the car at 3:00p.

Still a good day in the mountains despite the broken ski, good problem-solving challenge, and good lessons learned :)

Max, this is Anthony the guy that dropped in just before you.  I'm really sorry to hear you broke your ski just as you got into the Slot.  I would have stopped to ski with you had I known and not been chasing my friends below.  Hopefully you've got a backup setup so you can keep skiing this spring.  I'll send you a PM with my email address.  I'd love to see the photos you got!
